Accessible for everyone

As a public authority it is STIB's responsibility to make the public transport accessible for everyone. Since several years STIB strives to make its network accessible for people with reduced mobility.

All buses are low-floor vehicles and our new busses are equipped with a retractable ramp which makes access easier for wheelchair users. Our modern tramways are also low-floor vehicles.

More and more tram and bus stops are fitted with a rubber mat. It enables partially sighted persons to find their way easier where the bus will stop. This mat is placed on the ground where the front door of the bus will be.

The metro is becoming more and more accessible. The Region has begun to install lifts as part of the renovation of the major underground stations. Every station has a map in Braille and the way to the platforms and exits are marked with tactile warning surfaces.
