Taking action for the environment
STIB is a primary player in sustainable mobility in Brussels and it is responsible for preventing the emission of 160,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. However, the public transport company's involvement in the preservation of quality of life in Brussels also includes its willingness to reduce the impact of its activities on the urban environment to a minimum: sustainable purchases, managed consumption (water, energy, etc.), prevention measures against noise and vibrations, etc.
STIB makes a major contribution to the fight against climate change and takes part in the Region's major environmental goals.
- Reducing greenhouse gases
- Reducing air pollution
- Reducing noise pollution
- Reducing the volume of waste
- Saving energy.
Sustainable mobility player
STIB's trams, buses and metros carry nearly 350 million passengers a year. Using public transport means making a concrete commitment to helping the environment. It also means reducing CO2 emissions by 70% compared to making the same trip by car.
Eco-dynamic company
STIB has been working to manage and reduce the impact of its activities on the environment for a number of years now. This is part of the "eco-dynamic company" approach to which STIB has subscribed since 2002.
