STIB will gradually replace its transport tickets with a single pass: MOBIB. This card offers new functionalities to make your journey more comfortable.
What is MOBIB?
It is a pass on which you can store transport contracts that best suit your needs: a free ticket for those younger than 12 or older than 65, a yearly or monthly season ticket, a ten journey or day contract. In short, too much to mention.
MOBIB differs from a card with a magnetic strip because your season ticket is stored on it. Thanks to its electronic chip there are no limits as to what you can store on this card. The pass is valid for 5 years.
You validate it every time you board a bus or tram or enter an underground station (even if you have a season ticket or when you change between lines).
To make the transition to MOBIB as easy as possible, both the old and new transport ticket remain valid during a couple of months.

A pass full of advantages
It will make your life easier
You no longer need to take your ticket out of your wallet or handbag. Thanks to the ‘no contact' technology, your pass can be read by our MOBIB readers within a reach of 5 cm. No need anymore to stick your pass in a validating machine. Practical when traveling with kids or carrying bags.
Store the contract that best suits your needs
On one pass you can store different travel formulas at any time: a season ticket, a ten journey or day formula. You can also choose the date on which your season ticket has to start.
Avoid the queues
You can top up your MOBIB-card on the internet, at every underground station through our GO ticket machines and soon at the most important bus and tram stops. You can also top up your card in our BOOTIK and KIOSK sales outlets.
Nothing escapes the watchful eye of our reader.
You can find a MOBIB reader at the entry of every underground station and in every bus and tram. Every reader has a screen which displays on demand all the information on your card.
How to validate
Hold your MOBIB pass close to the validation zone, marked by the big IOI in the center. You will hear a beep which confirms the validation of your pass.
If you have several different contracts on your MOBIB-card then there is an order of priority in which they are automatically validated.

What else do you need to know about your MOBIB card?
Where can you get one?
If you hold a season ticket, you will receive the application forms for a MOBIB pass in your letterbox. After you have completed the form, you return it to us with the enclosed envelop (postage paid by the addressee). We will then send you your card as soon as possible.
How much does it cost?
You only pay a refundable deposit of 5 euro. For this amount you receive your personal pass and lots of benefits. If you no longer use your card, the deposit is refunded pro rata the number of years you have used it.
Where can you top it up?
On the internet (www.stib.be), at the GO ticket machines and in 2009 directly from the readers. But also in our BOOTIK and KIOSK sales outlets.
Where can you use it?
Only on the STIB network at and in the partner museums of the Brussels card. In the future you will also be able to use it on the networks of De Lijn, TEC, SNCB, and Thalys and the partners of STIB (Cambio car-sharing and interparking).
Who can enjoy it
Initially only season ticket holders. From 2009 everybody who wishes to travel on the STIB network and enjoy its benefits can apply for a MOBIB pass.
*the SNCB, De LIJN, TEC season ticket are not yet involved in these mailings. The present transport tickets remain valid for a while.
